From Halloween to Memorial Day to (of course) the Fourth of July, Worthington knows how to throw a parade. Grab your lawn chairs and find a good spot for July's exhibit on parades from Worthington’s past.
The Fourth of July is always a good occasion for a parade, and through the decades Worthington has observed the holiday in true patriotic fashion. A 1911 parade up High Street featured a fife and drum corps, veterans and Boy and Girl Scouts, not to mention some interesting costumes. In later decades, the summer holiday would bring the Northwest Worthington Civic Association's Bicycle Parade, as well as Worthington Hills’ annual parade featuring bands, floats and more.
But the city doesn't limit its marching festivities to Independence Day alone. Memorial Day, Halloween and city anniversaries such as the 1953 sesquicentennial and the 2003 bicentennial are all occasions that call for a parade. For many years, Worthington was the site of the Pooch Parade, an event honoring our four-footed friends and their people.
Whether it's dramatic floats, marching bands, historical reenactors or simply a gaggle of high school students waving from a convertible VW bug, there are so many ways to celebrate. Give a wave and a cheer for the marchers in Worthington's parades!
