This is the program for the Worthington High School production of the play "Antigone." The play was presented on November 9 and 10, 1973, at the James Kilbourne Auditorium at Worthington School. The school's theater program was known then as the Worthington Thespian Society.
The program is four pages, and printed on red paper. The cover features a hand-drawn design by student Val Dunning that includes several rectangular shapes and the word "ANTIGONE," showing the letters breaking apart across the middle. Page two lists the production staff, technical crew, make up and costume artists, ticket sellers, ushers, publicity, program and poster design, and percussionist. Page three features the cast, and page four is the blank back cover. The production featured students Whit Chase and Kathy Welch as the Narrator and Antigone, respectively.
This production was director Bronwynn Hopton's first as drama teacher at Worthington High School. She would go on to direct and teach theater at Worthington High School/Thomas Worthington High School for the next 40 years, retiring in 2013. In 1988, she founded the Thomas Worthington High School Theatre Repertory. Countless alumni cite her influence for their love of theater, or even their professional success in the field. An October 24, 2010 "Columbus Dispatch" article quotes her as saying, "Theater is not just a superfluous after-school event, but something we study that deserves the same focus as science, math or history. " Her first name graces the Bronwynn Theatre at the McConnell Arts Center.
