Dr. Seyed Kazem “Babahaka” Shams, age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at 9:00pm in Columbus. He was born May 24, 1925 in Dezful, Iran to Hassan and Zahra Shams. He graduated from the University of Tehran with a Doctorate in Pharmacology in 1952. As a renowned pharmacologist and entrepreneur, Dr. Shams was a pioneer of the Iranian pharmaceutical industry, founding several successful medical companies throughout Iran. On March 25, 1950, Dr. Shams married Rouhangiz Shams commencing a 68 year-long, loving marriage. Their love for one another set a strong example of commitment, companionship, and comradery not only for their children, but for all those blessed enough to be in their lives. In 1979, Dr. and Mrs. Shams left their country. Leaving his professional legacy behind, they moved to the United States where their children were studying at the time. Above all, Dr. Shams will be remembered for his innate empathy and passion for humanity. Every person who met Dr. Shams was touched by his graciousness and integrity. He had a passion for the arts, particularly poetry, music, and calligraphy. Dr. Shams is survived by his wife, Rouhangiz Shams, and their four children: Daria (Mitra) Shams, Roya (Mohamad) Daneshmand, Hamid (Nazee) Shams, and Farid Shams; his seven grandchildren: Shiva (Armin) Rahmanian, Sara (Varun) Daneshmand, Shayda Shams, Darius Shams, Shahrzad Shams, Omid Shams, and Navid Shams; his four greatgrandchildren; his brother: Hossein Shams; and his six sisters: Alyeh Shams, Batool Shams, Forough Shams, Sara Shams, Zahra Shams, and Marzieh Shams.
