Philip Edward Mark, 99, passed away peacefully at Willow Brook Christian Village on August 2, 2023. He was born in a farmhouse on Creek Road, now Cooper Road, in Blendon Township, Franklin County, Ohio to Robert M. and Caroline Meade Mark. He was the youngest of five siblings. He grew up on that farm, and went to Westerville Schools. He participated in plays and track while in school and graduated from Westerville High School in 1941. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Force in January 1943, and served in Europe for the remainder of World War II. After the war, the GI Bill gave him the opportunity to attend college that he would not have had without the help and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1949.

He met Ethel Micklewright while at OSU and married in 1950; they were married for 53 years until her death. He often said he was a lucky man to have her as she was too good for him. He worked at paper and packaging firms while he raised his family of three sons, and then began and ran a successful packaging supply firm until he retired. He was a dedicated and respected Scouter in the local Boys Scouts of America council, serving in several adult leadership roles during that long tenure; he was awarded the council’s highest award, the Silver Beaver in 1981. He was also a member of the Worthington Optimist Club. He kept busy working in his flower beds at his home and continued working in the flower beds at Willow Brook until his health did not allow him to do so. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his siblings, Elizabeth (Dwight) Robison, William (Alice) Mark, Mary Alice (John) Larzelere, Elinor (Sam) Rodgers.

He is survived by his three sons Richard (Judith) Mark of Carroll, Ohio, James (Patty) Mark of Westerville, Ohio, and David Mark of Vicksburg Mississippi, and by grandchildren Holly Mark, Jennifer Bartram, James Mark, Ashley Mark, Alyssa (Greg) Smith, Adam Mark and Kathleen Murphy. Friends may call on Saturday August 5, 2023 at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street in Worthington from 10:00am to 11:00am, where a funeral service with US Army honors will be held at 11:00am, a private interment will be held at Flint Cemetery at a later date.
