Maleki-Rai Dr. Zeinolabedin Maleki-Rai, passed away December 9, 2013 at the age of 100. Papajon, as he was known affectionately by his family and loved ones, represented the finest qualities that one could ever meet or aspire to be. Born in Tehran, Iran he was a witness to some of the most dramatic and pivotal events of humankind. As an intellect, he earned three Ph.Ds, spoke seven languages and wrote multiple volumes on the flora and plants of the Middle East. He enriched the lives of students, spending decades as a professor and researching at universities across the world including UCLA and Tehran University. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Ashraf; his children, Shahriar, Sherry, Shanna, Shiva and Amir; nine grandchildren; and countless other lives that have been enriched by his humor, his love and his acceptance.
