Janet, born in New Jersey in 1924, was active in Girl Scouts, cheerleading and especially loved dancing. She wanted to be a nurse when she graduated high school in 1942, and could have been trained as part of the war effort, but her family needed her income, so Janet continued to do secretarial work and volunteered at the hospital as a nurse’s aide.
Janet also volunteered at USO dances where she met a handsome member of the Coast Guard, Bill Lloyd. Bill and Janet enjoyed ten years of marriage and were expecting a child, when Bill died suddenly from an aneurysm. Soon after their daughter Bonnie was born, Janet moved to Ohio to help her sister-in-law by being a nanny for her three nephews. It was there she met William Warren (Bud) Jones. Janet and Bud had two daughters and the family of five moved to Powell, Ohio and had the time of their lives! We have many happy memories of vacations and holidays and just living in the country. Janet celebrated life and helped others join in. Janet and Bud were active in faith building and service in their church and community. After twenty-seven years of marriage, Bud lost his battle with cancer and Janet was a widow at age 56. She moved to Hilliard, Ohio where she became an active member of the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church. Janet served as a volunteer with a hospital chaplain, served on prayer support and participated in many bible studies and groups. Janet loved her grandchildren, traveling, and volunteering at church. She was a constant support and help.
In 2015 Janet moved to Lexington, Kentucky and became one of the residents at the wonderful Ashland Terrace, a retirement home for ladies where she went to the races, picked pumpkins, attended parties, bible studies… and just thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and kindness of the residents and staff. Of special mention are Kelly, Nisa, Bob and Mike. Janet moved in with her daughter Wendy and sister-in-law Doris, in May of 2023. She began to decline after breaking her hip in a fall. Janet wanted to “make it to 99,” and she did. She celebrated her 99th birthday surrounded by family. Janet’s celebration of life will be held at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church Mill Run Campus, 3500 Mill Run Drive, Hilliard, Ohio 43026 on September 12 at 1:00. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Janet’s honor to Ashland Terrace, 475 South Ashland Avenue, Lexington, Kentucky 40502. I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life. John 8:12
