Harvey Adam Leich passed from this world on February 3rd. He is preceded in death by his son George. Harvey was a very loving husband and father who was highly principled, kind, thoughtful, honest and gentle with a wry sense of humor that all loved. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Penny, his daughters Carol and Susan, as well as his son-in-law Nick; granson, Neil; grandaughter, Ayana; and many friends. Harvey was a native of Brooklin, NY. After graduation from Brooklyn Technical High School he attended Ranselaer-Polytechnic Institute where he received a degree in Aeronautical Science. In 1938 he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the US Marine Corps and was called to active duty in 1941. He served primarily in the Pacific theatre throughout WWII. On returning home Harvey continued in the Reserves, establishing reserve units in New York and Ohio. He retired after 40 years of service as a Colonel. In 1941 Harvey married his sweetheart, Penny (nee-Blanch Pinnell). After living in Farmingdale, NY the family moved in 1954 to Ohio where Harvey had been hired as a manager for North American Rockwell/Boeing Aviation. In adiition to designing and managing projects for aircraft, hydrofoil, boats and missiles, he directed the installation of information systesm on the country's first nuclear powered aircraft carriers. He retired after 16 years and then worked for both the Ohio Public Utilities Commission and Ohio EPA in engineering positions in 1978. The family lived in Worthington, Ohio for 25 years, than in 1979, Harvey, Penny and Susan followed Carol to California. Harvey was employed by Federal Electric for several years here, and then retired finally after working 44 years in the field of aeronautical engineering. Always active in the community Harvey has been active locally. He established the Santa Maria Newcomers Manisa Club, serviced many years as a member of the area IX Advisory Committee for the US Regional Center for persons with developmental disabilities, was a presental of Oasis Senior Center, a President of the Creekridge Homeowners Association and served on the Interior Design committee for the new Orcutt Presbyterian Church sanctuary. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 12th at 2:00 p.m. at the Corcutt Presbyterian Church 933 Patterson Road. Donations to the Orcutt Presbyterian Church or the CA Neuroscience Institute (Parkinson's Diease Research), 1700 N. Jroad Avenue #400 Oxhard, California, 93030, will be most welcome.
