Roger Glen Kussow, age 83, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024. He was born April 4, 1940, in Oconto, Wisconsin to the late Ben and Ruth Kussow. Roger is survived by loving wife Barbara Jean Kussow; children Adam Glen Kussow, Nathan Wayne Kussow, and Warren Ray Schneider; grandchildren Dylan Schneider, Zachary Schneider, and Natalie Schneider; brothers Tom Kussow, Gary (Diane) Kussow, and James (Merle Wilson, Jr.) Kussow, along with other dear family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother Wayne Kussow.

Roger grew up on a dairy farm in Oconto, WI, where he was accustomed to early morning milking routines. His father always said he was good with the cows. Brother Gary remembers fishing with Roger on the Wisconsin River, and a particular day when they were photographed with a large northern pike. In high school, he excelled in track and had the fastest time in the 440 in the state of Wisconsin in his senior year. He drove a VW Beetle that he loved during his college years. His education began with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin then a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 1971 in Geology. Roger then began his career where he was employed as an Editor, at Chemical Abstracts Service, from September 16, 1974, to October 1, 2012. Roger was loyal, hardworking, and generous to his family. He was devoted to his disabled son and would take 4-mile hikes with him on Sundays. Roger enjoyed coin collecting, environmental causes, gardening and landscaping, traveling to foreign places and attending the Columbus Symphony. He was a huge fan of the Columbus Crew soccer team. He and his wife enjoyed ballroom dancing for many years. He was a bright presence in people’s lives and will be missed deeply.

Family will receive friends Saturday, February 17th, 2024, from 12-2PM at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 6699 N. High Street, with a memorial service to follow 2PM. Please share a memory or send condolences to Roger’s family.
