Gregory Lynn Jones, 66, of Worthington, Ohio, passed away late April 19, 2020 in Columbus, Ohio.Greg was born on October 8, 1953 in Barnesville, Ohio. Greg, always focused on service to his community, was the class President for the Barnesville High School class of 1972 and a three-sport athlete playing football, basketball and baseball. Greg continued his education at West Liberty State College where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, and later earned his Master’s Degree from The Ohio State University in Psychology. Greg positively impacted countless young people in his role as a School Psychologist for Southwestern City Schools, Delaware City Schools, Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools and also consulted for schools in the Marion, Ohio area. Greg’s passion for both psychology and service also led him to a career as a private counselor. As a lifelong learner, Greg continued to take classes and keep up to date on the latest research in School Psychology even after his retirement.Greg was a man of strong faith and he was active in ministry and service through First Community Church. Greg is known for and will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, a great listener and wonderful friend, a caring, thoughtful, and generous man, and of course, a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.Greg is preceded in death by his wife Barb Jones (Mallernee), his father Gerald Jones, mother-in-law Polly Mallernee (Pittis), father-in-law Robert Mallernee, sister -in- law, Nancy Wells (Mallernee) and brother-in-law Rick Samuels.Greg is survived his mother Rosemary Jones (Conger); by his three daughters Heidi Beck (Ryan), Rachel Jones, and Hayley Mardis (Michael); by his brother Gerald Jones (Ann); brother-in-law Richard Wells, sister-in-law Joan Samuels; as well as by his Grandchildren Ella and Lucy Prediger and Thomas Beck, along with nieces and nephews Kelly Jones, Bert Jones, Richard Wells, Gabe Wells, Shannon Baytos and Megan Rice, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.To express your condolences please visit www.ruthorfordfuneralhomes.com.
