Clark Carol Clark believed in carving your own destiny through your own choices, not leaving everything to chance. From setting a world record in mountain climbing to leading the world in sensory science to being beloved by her friends and family alike, she carved her own path through the world. At age 79, she died June 14, 2014. She is survived by her two sons, Ken Clark and Larry Clark; significant other, Paul Remlinger; daughter-in-law, Ann Clark; six grandchildren, Sara Dowden, Kendra Clark, Michael Clark, Ceci Clark, Cozy Clark and Jillian Clark; and great-grandson, Zachary Dowden. Carol Wriedt was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 5, 1934. Her parents, Johanna and Carl Wriedt, came to the United States from Germany to escape the depression after World War I. Carol was fluent in both English and German, which allowed her to help her family adjust in their new country. After she completed a Master in Science at The Ohio State University, she worked for Worthington Foods from 1967 to 1978. She was lovingly known as the "Betty Crocker" of Worthington Foods. She joined the sensory science department at Ross/Abbott Lab in 1978. Her job included tasting products like Similac, developing their sensory science lab and traveling to Abbott plants all over the world. Her design is still the standard that Abbott labs still use today. Carol was known for her sense of adventure. Through her lifetime, she traveled to all 7 continents. Highlights of her travels include everything from visiting the ice hotel in Sweden, a cruise in Antarctica to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro on the hardest trail called the Machame trail. A celebration of her life will be held at The Columbus Athenaeum on Sunday, June 22 at 1 p.m.
