Chiles The Rev. Robert Keith Chiles, 81, died Monday morning at Kobacker House after a brief struggle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was the son of the late Dr. Paul and Mildred Chiles, raised in Lebanon, Ohio, and graduated from Miami University and Garrett Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Divinity degree. He was ordained an elder in the West Ohio Conference of the Methodist Church and served churches in Xenia, Monfort Heights, Celina, Newark, and Worthington. He also served as a District Superintendent in the former Toledo District. Throughout his career, he served on numerous district, conference, and community committees, including nurturing and credentialing those entering representative ministry. He has served as a trustee of The Methodist Theological School of Ohio, Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices, Lakeside Chautauqua, and The United Methodist Children's Home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrol Hurst Chiles, who died in 1997 after 41 years of marriage; and then Dee Ann Kahn Chiles, to whom he was married from 1999 until her death in 2002. Carla Jeanne Fox, his wife of eleven years, survives him. He is also survived by his siblings, Sharon (Kent) Spieth, Suzanne (Michael) Moore, and John (Molly) Chiles. He is also survived by his children, Ann (Don) Wheat, Jill (Bob) Doebereiner, Susan (Doug) Talbott, and Kristin (David) Markay, Lisa (Joe) Jeffries, and Mandy (Dan) Fox, Adam (Karen) Fox, and Robert A (Wendy) Fox; and by the following grandchildren, Katy (Peter) Borhauer, Erin (Nick) Haught, Jenny (Steven) Wheat, Adrienne, Adam, and Emerson Slicer, Amanda (Brian) Smith, Matthew Doebereiner, Emily and Hurst Talbott, Hannah and Aidan Markay, Adam and Lauren Jeffries, Brittany (Sam) Trost, Emily Fox, Riley and Hadley Fox, and foster grandson, Ryan. His first great-grandchild is due in February. Visitation hours at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington, Ohio will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Worthington United Methodist Church, with a lunch to follow. Contributions may be given to the Chiles Family Fund for Christian Education at The Methodist Theological School of Ohio or a charity that touches your heart.
