In 1960 Worthington Foods acquired the Battle Creek Food Company which had been founded by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and was producing vegetable protein foods and a number of other products marketed primarily to the health food trade. The acquisition included recipes and formulas, trademark rights, manufacturing equipment, rights to use the Battle Creek Food Company name, and the fight to continue employment of workers employees considered to be important to the production and marketing of the company's products. Land and factory buildings were not included in the purchase of the business. Although this acquisition which was completed late in the year it enabled Worthington Foods to exceed one million dollars in annual sales for the first time in its history.
