This photograph depicts a view of the graveyard behind St. John's Episcopal Church of Worthington. The building in the background is the old Worthington Junior High School (now Kilbourne Middle School).
The first burial occurred in 1804, twenty-seven years before the building of the church. The tombstones' inscriptions tell of the privations of early 19th century pioneer life, with high infant mortality, childbirth deaths, and epidemics. The burial ground was open to all in the surrounding communities, regardless of race or creed.
