The Maynard homestead was originally the home of the Maynard family who farmed land south of Worthington for several decades in the 19th century. The area is now known as the Village of Riverlea. The Moses Maynard farm extended west to the Olentangy River and east well beyond what is now High St. Moses Maynard Sr. (b. 1755, d. 1834) migrated to Ohio from Massachusetts and purchased the land in 1806. Moses Sr. conveyed the land to his son Moses Maynard Jr. prior to his death. Moses Maynard Jr. died in 1862. A map dated 1883 lists the land as belonging to A. M. Noble. At the beginning of the twentieth century the farm land was owned by Jacob and Clara Artz. In the 1920s the Van De Boe-Hager Company began residential development in the area and in 1939 the Village of Riverlea was incorporated.
