Pictured here are Griswold brothers outside the Griswold Inn, identified as (left to right) William Lawrence Griswold, Howard Lee Griswold, Herbert W. Griswold, and George H. Griswold and Rev. Edwin Viets Griswold. They were five of fourteen children born to Worthington Franklin Griswold and Fondelia Ruth Griswold. Worthington and Fondelia Griswold raised the family in the former Griswold Inn, which was built by the men’s great-grandfather Ezra Griswold in 1811. The Inn stood adjacent to the north-east quadrant of the Village Green until the building was razed in 1964.
William Lawrence Griswold (b. 1872, d. 1961) graduated from Ohio State University in 1892 and married Georgianna Johnson of Flint, OH. He was a municipal revenue collector and relocated to New York, then Atlanta. Howard Griswold (b. 1878, d. 1955) was a mechanical engineer and worked for 40 years with the Metal Products Company in New Jersey. He married Cora Roberts. Herbert Griswold (b. 1882, d. 1956) was a plumber and building contractor in the Worthington area. He married Jeanette Phillips. They resided at 788 High St., the family owned building known as the Griswold Inn. George Griswold (b. 1867, d. 1938) relocated to Chicago, IL where he worked as a cook. He married twice, first to Mary Hopkins and second to Amy Schwartz. Rev. Edwin Viets Griswold (b. 1879, d. 1950) attended Ohio State University Law School and later entered Seabury Western Seminary in Evanston, IL. He married Olive L. Snyder of Chillicothe, OH.
