Volunteers are pictured here participating in the Community Service Day, which takes place annually during National Volunteer Week. Teams of adult and student volunteers solicit pledges sponsoring their work on repairs, home improvement, and assistance projects for senior citizens and others in the community. Businesses in the community are asked to match funds earned. Service Day was first implemented in Worthington in 1993 as a Leadership Worthington Class project organized by Jeanne Earhart, Dennis Jewett, Jo-Anne LaBudda, Penny Madry, Becky Senecal, Carolyn Styer, and Brenda Toler. Simultaneous service events are now undertaken by leadership programs in other central Ohio communities on the same day.
