Pictured here are Thomas Worthington/Worthington High School alumni taking part in a tour hosted by the high school on April 11, 2023. They are shown at the end of a long hallway, with lockers lining both sides of the hall. Alumni were invited to walk through the school one last time before work began to renovate it. The group was taken through the building’s hallways, classrooms, library, theater and grounds, as well as shown a presentation outlining the plans for the extensive renovations which were anticipated to begin in June, 2023, with a completion date in 2026.

The Thomas Worthington High School building was dedicated on September 30, 1951. At the time, it was known as “Worthington High School”—it would be renamed “Thomas Worthington High School” during the 1991-92 school year, to help differentiate it from Worthington Kilbourne High School, which opened that same year.

As explained by a construction timeline released by the Worthington Schools, "In November 2022, residents of the Worthington School District voted to support the plan for the second phase of the Master Facilities Plan. Voters approved issues that will help shape the future of the district.

"The tax levy, bond and permanent improvement issues that were passed will provide operational revenue and allow for the renovation and rebuilding of Thomas Worthington and Worthington Kilbourne High Schools.

"The bond issue will allow the district to renovate and replace most sections of Thomas Worthington High School and replace the natatorium. The changes to Thomas Worthington will include creating a larger cafeteria, while also adding and modernizing science labs and other flexible learning spaces."

As outlined in the construction timeline released by the schools, other improvements include those made to the field house/turf fields; parking lot; art, theater and music spaces; baseball/softball fields; and gyms.
