Abstract | "Sleeping Beauty" was one of seven major productions performed by the Worthington Civic Ballet, under the direction of Barbara Burrows on a rotating basis over forty years. This program is from the 1994 presentation of "Sleeping Beauty" and "Stars of the Silver Screen". Three performances were staged in one day at the Thomas Worthington High School Theater, featuring local dance and theater arts students from the Worthington Civic Ballet and Theatre Arts Guild, as well as Barbara Burrows and guest artists Annette Noyes (Indianapolis Ballet Company), Lea Darwin (Gus Giordrano Jazz Dance), and Nancy Morcos (Capital City Ballet). The ballet Sleeping Beauty is based on French author Charles Perrault's (1628-1703) classic fairy tale. The original ballet featuring Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky's music (Opus 66) was choreographed by Marius Petipa and premiered in Saint Petersburg in 1890. It was Tchaikovsky's first successful major ballet |
