A service celebrating the life of Leonard Leon Lucas, age 67, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 25, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Gus Christo-Baker officiating. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Worthington.

Mr. Lucas went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 21, 2010 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born October 22, 1942 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Bernard Leon and Dolly Ethel (Umblebee) Lucas.

Mr. Lucas was a 1960 graduate of Westerville High School. While in high school he began working for Big Bear as a carry out and later transferred to the meat department where he became manager. He worked for Kart Transportation in Mount Vernon for several years and then worked for the Kroger Co. in the meat department, retiring in 2005. He was a meat cutter for 30 years and will be remembered by many. He loved his friends and enjoyed trucks and cars.

He is survived by three children, Tammie (Tom) Moore of Newark, Cara (Allen) Young of Canal Winchester and Brian Lucas (fiancee April Anderson) of Newark; three grandchildren, Matthew Moore and Evan and Joseph Young; brother, Kenneth David Lucas of Newark; sister-in-law, Shirley Dixon; and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren and held a special place in his heart for Brenda Lucas, mother of his children, and dear friends, Barb Lucas and Mary Lucas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Garrett; and a brother, Richard Dixon.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, at the funeral home, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath.
