FINNERAN George D. Finneran, a 56 year resident of Worthington, died July 19, 2007 in Mount Vernon, OH at the age of 91 1/2. He was born in Columbus, OH January 13, 1915 to James and Louise (Doersam) Finneran of Bexley. He was predeceased by his parents, his two brothers James Edward Junior and Robert, and his wife Jane. George graduated from Aquinas High School, Class of '33, and later from The Ohio State University, B.S. Business Administration. On Valentines Day 1942, he wed the love of his life, the former Jane Warnock. He then enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, and served his country with honor as a Master Sergeant in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II. George was a 37 year member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church where he served as Treasurer for 10 years, sang in the Choir, and volunteered on many other committees. He served as President of a number of business and civic organizations including Weeks-Finneran Insurance Agency, Columbus Chapter C.P.C.U., Worthington Public Library Board, Cardinal Boosters, Linworth P.T.A., Columbus Chapter Toastmasters Int'l., Columbus Mutual Insurance Club, and Beacon Mutual Employees Assn. George was an avid gardener, and a creative writer and storyteller with a keen sense of humor. He was a long time coach in the Worthington Little League Baseball program, and was active in racquetball, tennis, and Friday night softball leagues for many years, pitching his last game at the age of 61. He vacationed with his family at Lake Erie, and made 6 canoe trips into the Canadian Wilderness with his sons. George was an enthusiastic walker with his wife, Jane. As members of the Buckeye Wanderfreunde Walking Club, they walked in and out of the Grand Canyon, covered 450 miles of the Appalachian Trail, took 7 hikes through the Wind River Mountains of Arizona, Mountains in New England, and overseas along the rural countrysides of England. Their travels also included two weeks each in Israel, Germany, Greece, and three separate visits to England and Ireland. All of these were enjoyable steps of a journey that unfolded across 64 years of marriage to his lovely wife, Jane, spent living, loving, and laughing together. His only regret was that he couldn't do it all over again. George is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Evans (Harvey) of Tinton Falls, N.J.; sons, Michael (Susan) Mount Vernon, Todd (Waree) and Terry (Theresa) of Columbus; daughter, Molly (John) Gamertsfelder of Johnstown, OH; first cousins, Nancy (Ray) Bichimer, and Jean (Hal) Ridenour of Columbus, OH and Henry (Dorothy) Doersam of Evansville, IN; 13 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
