Perry J. Rieppel, age 87, of Worthington, died Friday, August 24, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. A retired metallurgical engineer, he received his B.S. from Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA and completed his graduate work at Cornell University and the University of Buffalo. He was a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio and a teacher from 1937-1941. He was then employed by Battelle Memorial Institute from 1943-1977 as Engineer and Manager of Metals Research. He was a life time member, executive director and engineering fellow of the American Welding Society; a life member of the American Society of Metals; Author and Co-author of many U.S. Patents and Engineering Publications. Received major awards for engineering and management and was a consulting engineer and management advisory to industry and government. Preceded in death by his parents John and Ethel Rieppel. Survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Karl (Nancy) Rieppel, Kurt (Janet Varner) Rieppel, Bronwynn (David) Hopton; grandchildren, John (Deirdre) Rieppel, James and Kate Rieppel, Myvonwynn, Bronwynn and Perrigene Hopton; sisters, Anna Rieppel, Edith (Joseph) West and Arlene Strailey; brothers, Paul (Lena) Rieppel and James (Betty) Rieppel; sisters-in-law, Catherine Millichap and Margaret Howard; nieces and nephews. A private family memorial service will be held at the Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington Chapel, 515 High Street, Worthington (3 blocks South of St. Rte 161) with Rev. Richard Kessler officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, August 30, 2001 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Family requests in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to the First Congregational Church, 444 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215-3885.
