When death takes a precious loved one, the Lord comforts His own in a special way with the fellowship of His presence. It's a comfort in sorrow that the world knows nothing about. And this consolation reinforces in our hear the hope of the coming again of Christ described in 1 Thessalonians 4. The apostle Paul told us that when Jesus comes again, as He promised (John 14:3), we will join with those who have gone before, and together we will live with Christ forever. As the years pass and more and more of our loved ones die and go to Heaven, that hope burns more brightly than ever. No wonder the apostle Paul admonished. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
