Edward E. Holt, 1901-1995

Edward E. Holt, age 93, of Honolulu, Hawaii (also of Worthington, Ohio), Thursday March 16, 1995 in Honolulu. Born in Peebles, Ohio November 12, 1901 to Oscar V. and Emma K. Moore Holt who preceded him in death. Also preceded in death by wife Nelle Shumaker who died in 1982, son Sgt. Jack E. Holt who died in WWII. Survived by wife, Gleda Farrell Holt; daughter and son-in-law, Jane Holt Hersey and Paul W. Hersey of Reston, Va.; grandchildren, Deborah and Robert Lobe, Diane and Larry Topping, David and Keely Hersey; 4 great-grandchildren. Mr. Holt was a graduate of Wilmington College where he received his AB degree and Miami University where he received his MA Degree. He received the LLD from Wilmington College, Miami University, Ashland University and Wittenberg University. Served as Superintendent of Schools in Higginsport, Georgetown, Hillsboro, Marion Springfield and as Superintendent of Public Instruction in Ohio from 1954-1966. He was also a Research Consultant on State School Administration at Berkeley, Calif. And was a Research Professor in Education Administration in the Oregon System of Higher Education. Member of the Presbyterian Church. Life member Ohio Education Association. National Education Association, American Association of School Administrators, Masons and Rotary member. Since their marriage in 1982, Mr. and Mrs. Holt have spent most of their married years as residents of Honolulu, Hawaii, returning to their Worthington home for several months each year. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday March 25, 1995 at Rutherford-Corbin Chapel, 515 High Street, Worthington. Rev. Harold Myers officiating. Interment Walnut Grove Cemetery.
