BAKER Mary Carolyn Burgess Baker, age 93, passed away November 30, 2008, at her home in Wesley Glen. Daughter of Lloyd and Betha Goddard Burgess, she was born October 31, 1915 in Bartlett, Oh. Mary attended OSU and earned a BS and MBA by age 21. She was a member of the honor socieity Beta Gamma Sigma. In 1939, she married William H. Baker. During their 30 year marriage, they lived in a variety of interesting places including Germany from 1964-1969. Mary worked for the Worthington Board of Education and later as an academic counselor at OSU College of Education. Mary lived a life of service to family, friends, church, and the local and international communities. She was a 52 year member of the Worthington Presbyterian Church serving as an elder, a deacon, and a Stephen minister. She was a Life and Honorary Member of the Worthington Historical Society, member of the Worthington Woman's Club and the DAR, a 20 year volunteer at INCH (International Neighborhood Coffee Hour), and hostess for the Columbus International Program providing room, board, and friendship to participants from other countries. She received the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Columbus Chapter of the United Nations Association and The President's Volunteer Award. She is survived by sons, Dr. Gary Baker (special friend, Mary Dorsey), Barry Baker (Becky); daughter, Lella Martin (Larry); 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. A family graveside service will be held at Walnut Grove Cemetery. A memorial service at the Worthington Presbyterain Church is being scheduled. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worthington Presbyterian Church or the Worthington Historical Society.
