LODER Bishop Dwight E. Loder of Worthington, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 at home. He was born July 8, 1914 the youngest of four boys, in Waverly, Nebraska to William and Alice Loder. He graduated from Boston University School of Theology, and was ordained to the Methodist ministry in 1939. He served churches in North Towanda, Penn., Blossburg, Penn. and Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church in Minneapolis, Minn. In 1954 he became President of Garrett Theological Seminary. In 1964 he was elected to the episcopacy and as Bishop served the Michigan Area for twelve years, and the Ohio West Area for eight years. He retired in 1984. He served as President of the Chaplains Commission, President of the Council of Ministries, and the President of the Council of Bishops. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award at Boston School of Theology. He served as president of The American Section of the World Council of Churches, Chairman of the '76 Dublin Conferences, and Chairman of the Committee on World Evangelism for a quinquennium. He held several honorary degrees and was a popular lecturer .Bishop Loder was a Trustee at Riverside Methodist Hospital and Educational Opportunities. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Theodore, Edwin, and Leonel Loder and his wife of 60 years Mildred Shay Loder in 1999. He is survived by his daughter Ruthann Burnecke of Dallas Texas; son, William T. Loder and wife Mary Jo of Reston, Va. and son, D. David Loder and wife Beverly of Walnut Creek, Calif.; grandchildren, Deborah Burnecke Beneke and Scott Burnecke of Dallas, Texas, David Brian Loder of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Michael Joth Loder of Hopkins, Minn., Brent David Loder of San Francisco, Calif. Bradly William Loder of Walnut Creek, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Caroline and Catherine Benecke, Brittany and Brooke Burnecke. He was a beloved father, "Bapa" and "Gapa" and will be missed greatly by his family and friends. The family wishes to express their love and gratitude to Mary E. Jones, his devoted and loving caretaker. Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday Nov. 15, 2002 at Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High Street.
