Lawrence P. Fields died unexpectedly at Riverside Hospital. Preceded in death by parents Lawrence & Viola Anderson Fields, sisters Maude E. (Pat) Reynolds & Mary Fields, brother William (Hazel) Fields. Survived by wife, Rosanna Fields; daughters, Carol D. Fields, San Francisco, Brenda Fields (Allen) DiCenzo, Dublin; son, Larry A. Fields; sister Margaret A. Fields of Toledo; sisters and brothers-in-law Mary Kathryn (Joseph) Morgan, Sylvia (Roy) LaMar, Barbara (Bill) Bivens, Delbert (Paulette) Penn, Ruth (Russell) Smith; grandsons, Aaron & Marc DiCenzo; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Graduate of Worthington High School, Class of 1950, B.S. Degree in Education, Otterbein College & M.A. Degree in Education Administration, The Ohio State University. Mr. Fields played baseball, basketball and football at Worthington High School & received 4 letters in baseball & 3 in football while attending Otterbein College. He also played many years of amateur & semi-pro baseball in the Columbus area. Lifetime member of St. John's AME Church. Served in the U.S. Army, 3rd infantry division. 1958-1968 teacher 5th & 6th grade at Eleventh Ave. School, 1968-1971 teacher on Special Assignment in the Dept. of Special Program Development, Columbus Public Schools, 1971-1989 Supervisor in the Dept.
of Federal & State Programs for the Columbus Public Schools & Fiscal Officer for the department. Mr. Fields was employed by The Ohio State University as a parttime instructor in the School of Health, Physical Education & Recreation. He retired from the Columbus Public Schools in 1990 after 32 years of service. Funeral service 10 a.m. Mon. Nov. 8 at Worthington United Methodist Church, Elder Thomas Liggins, Pastor Hurdie Billingslea officiating. In lieu of flowers, contribute to St. John's AME Church, Worthington.
