David Joel Mierzejewski, age 50, of Worthington, Ohio came to the end of his battle with cancer on September 15, 2020. He fought valiantly for years and in the end was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his death. David is survived by his wife Betsy, daughter Kathryn, son Andrew, mother Nancy Goff, step father Michael Goff, father Samuel Mierzejewski, step mother Jolene Mierzejewski, brother Samuel Mierzejewski, sister in law Laura Mierzejewski, sister Chris Flory, brother in law Dave Flory, sister Bailey Francis and brother in law Joseph Francis, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and his brothers and sisters of the Worthington Fire Department. Dave was born in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1988. Later he went on to receive his Associates of Applied Science from Columbia Southern University. Dave had been employed as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the City of Worthington's Division of Fire and EMS for 25 years. Dave took such pride in serving his community in the roles of firefighter, paramedic, arson investigator and fire inspector. During his career he was nominated as Firefighter of the Year twice by his peers. Dave was also a Fire Instructor at Columbus State University where he had the pleasure of teaching the next generation of firefighters. Early in his career he had also been employed by the Washington Township Fire Department and the Orange Township Fire Department. Dave was an avid outdoorsman whose favorite place to be, if not with his family or on a fire truck, was in the woods. He found peace, relaxation and renewal being outside in nature, hunting, hiking, and fishing. He cherished vacations with his family, particularly their trips to northern Michigan. Dave was a life-long learner with a particular interest in military history. He had incredible respect for our military and for all public servants. He was a devoted husband and an incredibly proud father who will be greatly missed.
