In 1853, Elias Lewis (b. 1786, d. 1884) purchased an omnibus, or carriage to be pulled by horses, to begin service from Worthington to Columbus. His "Worthington Accommodation Line" boasted that passengers could commute from Worthington to Columbus in just two hours. Lewis sold the omnibus in 1859. His son Worthington Columbus Lewis later operated a similar service between Westerville, Worthington and Flint.
