The Ohio Gazetteer, first published in Chillicothe, Ohio, 1816 by John Kilbourn, served a great need for people in eastern states desiring to migrate west. The Gazetteer was a source of reliable information about the State of Ohio's topography and areas suitable for agriculture and settlement. This 6th edition copy of the Ohio Gazetteer was originally owned by John Wilson. Excerpts pertaining to the area of Worthington are presented.
John Kilbourn was the nephew of James Kilbourn. A graduate of Vermont University, he arrived in Worthington to become principal of the Worthington Academy. He later began a career in publishing. The gazetteer became a best seller, going through many editions.
