A Bicentennial Charter Oak was dedicated at a ceremony held on the front lawn of Worthington High School, May 26, 1976. The tree was a gift to Worthington Schools from the Worthington Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution in honor of the nation's Bicentennial. Pictured here are Mary Virginia Harding (right) and a State Officer of the Ohio Society Daughters of the American Revolution (left). The white oak represents Connecticut's "Charter Oak", whose story holds special significance in Worthington. Mary Ellen Minton, the DAR's Bicentennial chair suggested the oak as Worthington's founders were from Connecticut.
