Melba Woodruff (née Daley) was born Saturday, May 30, 1914 in Madison, Wisconsin .

Melba Daley Woodruff, age 83, passed away peacefully March 21, 1998. Preceded in death by husband Samuel A. Woodruff Sr. She is survived by son Samuel A. Susan E.) Woodruff Jr.; daughter Steffanie A. (John L.) Haueisen; son Peter Alden Woodruff; grand-daughters Sarah A. and Marie E. Woodruff; several nieces and nephews, cousin and in-laws and many friends. Melba was Professor Emeritus, OSU College of Education, Department of Foreign Language Education. She received her degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Prior to WW II, she taught in Madison, and traveled, continuing her studies in Europe. She was married in 1940, coming to Columbus shortly after, and joined the faculty of The University School in 1950. She remained a faculty member at the Ohio State University until her retirement in 1979. She participated actively in the alumni associations of The University School and of the University of Wisconsin, The Ross Foundation Inc. and the Ohio River Valley Airedale Terrier Club. Calling hours will be at the Weir-Arend Funeral Home, 4221 N. High St. (3 blocks south of Henderson Rd.) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 27. A service in celebration of her life will be held there at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 1998. Interment will follow this service at Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be given to the University School Endowment Fund.
