Ernest Dale VanHoose  was born Sunday, August 6, 1939 in Plain City, Ohio .

A man of great faith, Dale received his eternal reward and entered heaven at the age of 84.

Dale graduated from Jonathan Alder High School in 1957 and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara, on June 27, 1959.

He attended The Ohio State University and had a lifelong career as a Mechanical Engineer.

Among his many interests and hobbies, he could often be found in a stadium or on a court as a sports official. Dale officiated high school football and basketball for 30 years and earned a place in the OSHAA Hall of Fame. He played fast pitch softball until he switched to golf.

Dale is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara (Davis), daughter, Lisa (Carl) Oesch and son, David (Loretta) VanHoose. He was “Poppy” to many children, but especially to his five grandchildren, Amber, Andy and Mackenzie VanHoose and Joshua and Daniel Oesch. Dale is also survived by his brother, Gene (Annie) VanHoose as well as countless friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Meadow Park Church, 2425 Bethel Rd, Columbus, Ohio, where Dale was an active member for 58 years. Calling hours will be from 2pm to 4pm with a service to follow at 4pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Children of Promise (P.O. Box 2316 Anderson, IN 46018/ www.childrenofpromise.global), a child sponsorship program that Dale supported, advocated for and served for many years.
