Halcyon D. Swenson, 95, of Holiday, Florida, formerly of Worthington, Ohio peacefully passed away on November 4, 2017. She was born in Moline, IL to Clifford and Ida DeFraties. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert (Bob) Swenson and her daughter, Sherri Swenson. Halcyon excelled in school. She was an avid tennis player and won many regional tournaments in singles and mixed doubles. She was part of every school activity and committee. She was elected homecoming queen in her junior year. Halcyon went immediately into nurses training from high school, and became a surgical nurse right before World War II. Despite all of the doctors, nurses, friends and family arguing against it, Halcyon decided to marry Bob five days before he shipped out to Europe. Halcyon and Bob had a four day honeymoon, and did not see each other again for 2 1/2 years although they wrote letters every day to each other. After the war, they began to raise a family which included three children, Craig, Sherri and Barry. They lived in Central Ohio for over 50 years. During that time Halcyon was very active being a mother, wife, cook, chauffeur, gardener, tennis player, bridge player, advisor and travel companion to her husband, 11 year caregiver to her mother, Sunday school teacher, PTA volunteer, grandmother, great-grandmother and so much more. Halcyon loved to travel with her husband. Because of his work, they had the opportunity to travel the world together. Halcyon move down to Florida four years ago to be closer to family and enjoy the warm weather. Halcyon will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law Jean Frazier, brother-in-law Duane (Peg), sons, Craig (Mollie) and Barry (Jennifer), grandsons Rob (Bari), Eric, Ryan (Ally) as well as great-grand children, nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Walnut Grove Cemetery At 2 pm on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Halcyon's memory may be made to Gulfside Hospice, Land O' Lakes, FL. Arrangements are entrusted to Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street.
