William Franklin Spangler Sr., "Another soldier has gone home." Born September 9, 1924, departed this life June 8, 2016 after a long illness. Bill served His Lord Jesus faithfully for many years as first elder of the Groveport Church of Christ In Christian Union; later as part of the Praise Team at Freedom Memorial CCCU in Logan, Ohio. After twenty-nine years of employment at Nationwide Insurance, he retired in 1981. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, coaching little league baseball, but most of all, his family. Preceded in death by his parents Lebeous and Besse Phillips Spangler, brothers Duane (Mary Lee) and Craig (Barbara) Spangler, many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-six years, Wanda; children, Cindi (Jim) Wheeler of Westerville, Ohio, William Franklin (Mary) Spangler Jr. of Pataskala, Ohio, Beverly Shay of Centerburg, Ohio, Steve Spangler of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; one sister, Inalee (Jim) Liggett of Mt. Victory, Ohio. Also survived by six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. Bill served in the Army in WWII from 1942-1946. He spent his nineteenth birthday in Bristol, England, his twentieth in Cherbourg, France and his twenty-first in Brussels, Belgium. Promised a commission if he would re-up, he replied, "No way, I'm goin' home." A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Freedom Memorial Church, with Pastor Iris Conrad officiating. A military service will be conducted by the Hocking County Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, 5561 Milton Avenue, Worthington, Ohio.
