A funeral service for George E. South, age 94, of Harbor Hills, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, at the Kirkersville Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service with Rev. Richard D. Ellsworth officiating. Private interment will take place in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Columbus. Mr. South died May 18, 2004 at Heath Nursing Care Center. He was born May 4, 1910 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Oral and Birdye (Evans) South. Mr. South graduated of North High Schoo and received a B.A. degree in 1935 from the Ohio State University. He worked in the wholesale beer distribution business and served as a branch manager in charge of beer sales and delivery in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. He retired from a beer distributorship in Baltimore, Ohio in 1975. Mr. South was a member of the Hebron Lodge F&AM, Ancient Scottish Rite and the Aladdin Shrine. He was also a member of other masonic lodges for over 50 years. He was a member of the Old North Hi Club and was active in the Habor Hills Civic Association, serving as an officer on the board of trustees. He is survived by his wife, Helen Hobbs South, whom he married in 1973; a son, Stephen Wayne (Sue) South of Southlake, Texas; a grandson, John Snyder South; a step-son, Jack (Donna) Hobbs of Alexandria, Virginia; and a step-grandson Brian (Anne) Hobbs of Fairfax, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy, to whom he was married for 35 years.
