SMITH Elmer D. Smith, age 88, of Centerburg, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Knox Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Retired from Columbia Gas of Ohio. Member of Milford Church of Christ Centerburg; U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. Preceded in death by daughter Julie Nicely, parents DeQuincey and Icel Smith, brothers Roy and Homer, sister Marilyn Samuels. Survived by loving wife of 47 years, Violet G. Smith; children, Ruth Ann (John) Wisler of Amanda, OH, Rebecca (Michael) Murphy of Strongsville, OH, and Ronald (Miriam) Smith of Hemet, CA; six grandchildren and ten great-grand-children; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at the JOHNSON-MELICK-MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 49 West Church Street, Centerburg with visitation from 11 a.m. until time of service.
