Daniel W. Scott Dies In Peoria Hospital

Daniel W. Scott, 70, of 407 West Fifth street, one of the first Negro graduates of Oberlin college, died yesterday morning at the Peoria, Ill., hospital.
Born in Worthington, O., Scott graduated from Worthington high school and Oberlin college and taught school for a short time in Chicago.
When Harry M. Stevens, well-known restaurateur known as the "Peanut King" and the inventor of the hot dog sandwich, enlarged his chain of stores, Scott became a manager at the Madison Square Garden, Yankee stadium and Havana, Cuba, establishments.
Scott continued his association with Stevens for a number of years until he became ill 10 years ago when he returned to Dayton to live with his niece, Mrs. Jessie Hathcock, at the West Fifth street address.
Survivors include Mrs. Hathcock; one great-niece, Mrs. Helen Strong, Chicago, and one great-nephew, Lt. Lloyd Scott Hathcock, Dayton, liberated prisoner of the Germans.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the S.E. Corbin funeral home, Worthington, with burial in Walnut Grove cemetery.
