SANDERS Beatrice Maurine (Benfer) Sanders, age 82, of Upper Arlington, Ohio, died on Friday, August 14, 2009, peacefully surrounded by her family. Beatrice (Bea) was preceded in death by her husband John Sanders, her parents Maurice and Edna Benfer and her sister, Jacqueline Binkley. She is survived by her sons, Scott (Diane) Davis, Bruce T. (Linda) Davis, Bruce (Terri) Sanders; grandchildren, Cruz Davis, Spencer Davis, Rickie (Caitlian) Allman, Kyle Serrott, Meghan Sanders, Andrew Sanders, Taylor Sanders; great grandson, Jesse Allman; and brother-in-law, Dr. William F. Binkley; niece, nephews, great nephews and great nieces and many beloved lifelong friends. Bea was born in Cleveland, Ohio, lived a few years in Wichita, Kansas and at age 7 returned to Ohio, moving into Upper Arlington where she graduated high school in 1944. She received a Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University in 1948 and was initiated into the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority where she remained active throughout her life. Bea was a reporter for the Columbus Dispatch and then returned to OSU to acquire a degree in education, and taught 25 years at Windermere Elementary. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009 with the Rev. David Griebner officiating. Memorial donations may be made to The Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute, 480 Medical Center Dr., Columbus, Ohio 43210. Bea always made the best of whatever came her way, often with humor and an infectious positive attitude. She will be sadly missed. Her legacy was one of love, kindness, grace and orneriness. She would want her family and friends to have fun, laugh at life and enjoy every moment.
