Thelma Wall Phillips, formerly of Worthington, Fri. Mar 5, 1999 in Maryland. Born 12-17-1016 in Washington D.C. to Lt. Cecil & Goldie Wall. Preceded in death by husband of 37 years and high school sweetheart Thomas A. Phillips to whom she was married in an open church ceremony on 1-30-1941 and brother Gary Wall. Survived by daughter, Virginia Brooke and husband, James of MD; grandsons, James Eric & Jon David Brooke; great-grandson, Cameron Thomas Brooke; and sister Virginia Wall Shupp. Mrs. Phillips had, until recently, been a resident of Worthington since 1924 and a 1935 graduate of W.H.S. where she was an honor student and had been since second grade. Graduate of the former Buckeye Business College, after which he was employed as secretary to the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney. Jan. 1941 she accepted the first time full time secretary position, and clerk of the board of education for Worthington Schools. She continued to serve for 27 years, retiring in 1974. Active in many organizations, Worthington UMC choir for 25 yrs, Womens Club, Historical Society, chairman of the H.C. McCord Retirement Recetion, Sesquicentennial Observation, W. Bicentennial Com., charter member W. Players Club . Member of SERO. After her husband's death , Thelma filled much of her time writing poetry, and compiled over 60 poems into a book entitled "A Potpourri of Verse" . In the summer of 1991, she left her hometown of Worthington to be near her family in Maryland where she remained until her death. A Memorial Service will held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999 at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High St. Worthington Dr. W. Edge Dixon officiating. There will be a graveside committal service at 2 p.m. Friday, March 12, 1999 at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
