Dorothy May Pfefferle, age 96, a resident of Worthington Christian Village, Columbus, OH went peacefully to be with her Lord, Sunday, March 29, 2020. Dorothy was born November 9, 1923 in Huntington, IN to Chancey Edward & Lena Stemen May. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lewis William “Bud” Pfefferle Sr. They married in 1948 and raised their family in Colonial Hills, Worthington, Ohio. She leaves behind three very blessed children: Martha May (David) Town of Pittsford, MI, Lewis William “Bill” (Susan) Pfefferle Jr. of Westerville, OH and Joy Ellen (Michael) Burns of Raleigh, NC. Beloved grandchildren are Carrie Town, Greg (Rebecca) Town, Kevin (Whitney) Pfefferle, David (Chelsea) Pfefferle, Michaela Burns, Cameron Burns, and Christa Burns. Treasured great-grandchildren are William Town, Samuel Town, Karissa Town, Emelyn Town, Joseph Town, and Leah Pfefferle. The youngest of the May family, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, two brothers and many loved in-laws, nieces and nephews. A 1942 graduate of Huntington High School, she attended Huntington College before joining the US Cadet Nurse Corp, a program established by the U.S. Congress to help alleviate the nursing shortage that existed during World War II. She graduated as a registered nurse from Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI in 1947. She worked at The Ohio State University Hospital and also served as a private duty nurse. Upon raising her children, she returned to geriatric nursing in 1965 and retired in 1992 from Wesley Glen Health Center having served as Director of Nursing there for 22 years. She was a member of Worthington Grace Brethren Church, active in ministry there and later at Worthington Christian Village. She and Bud were devoted Buckeye fans and enjoyed traveling, often with their camper. She delighted in many wonderful friendships, Bible Studies, craft projects, playing and singing at the piano, was an avid reader, and writer of short stories and of her cherished memories. Final arrangements by Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High Street, Worthington, OH. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a future date. Dorothy’s family is thankful for the kindness and care given to their parents by the staff and volunteers at WCV.
