David Stuart Owen, 55, of Worthington, died February 1, 2017 at Kobacker House after fighting a courageous battle against cancer. David was born October 6, 1961 at Riverside Methodist Hospital and was the much loved son of Bill and Jackie Owen. He was surrounded by family, friends and his music during his illness. His father was at his side at the time of his death as he had been at every point through this very difficult journey. David graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1980 and The Ohio State University. He was currently employed by Century Link where he enjoyed many friends. He worked in the newspaper business, which he loved, for a number of years. Prior to that, he worked for many years at Quest. Family, friends, music and writing were David’s loves. He was writing a book about his father’s service in World War II at the time of his death. David wrote over 400 songs and played music in coffee-houses and restaurants in the Columbus area. He shared his knowledge and love of music with his many friends and family, even up to the last days of his life. David and his family enjoyed a lot of time together, throughout his life and during his last weeks at the Kobacker. David is survived by his father and stepmother, William V. Owen and Eileen Rager Owen; two sisters, Ann North and Susan Owen; two nephews, Mark and David North; a niece, Jacqueline Outka; an uncle, Dick Owen, and many cousins: Jim Owen (Suzi); Judy Baird (Ron); Jennifer Owen, Dick Owen (Jeannie). He is also survived by the family of Eileen Rager Owen in Indianapolis, Indiana, Florida and Texas. His many friends are too numerous to list. Many expressed gratitude for his unique spirit, kindness, and sense of humor. David was preceded in death by his mother, Jackie Owen, and a number of aunts and uncles: Betty Owen, Dan and Jane Lane, Phyllis and Jim Owen and Sara Owen. A memorial service will be held at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High Street, Worthington, Ohio on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 2:00p.m. The family would like to thank all the staff at Kobacker House and the James Cancer Hospital for their loving care of David and our family.
