Joseph S. Miller, age 89, of Worthington, Ohio went to his Lord on January 27, 2014. He was born October 2, 1924 in Columbus, OH to Dalton and Hazel Miller, who preceded him in death. Joe graduated from North High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in March of 1943. He served in the WW II Central Europe, Rhineland, and Ardennes campaigns where he earned several commendations including the American Theater Ribbon; Eames Theater Ribbon with Two Bronze Stars; the Good Conduct Medal; Victory Medal; and Purple Heart. Joe continued to serve until 1949 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Joe and his wife Betty were married on June 10, 1947 in Covington, KY. He continued to dedicate his service to his country as a civilian employee at the Defense Construction Supply Center (DCSC) in Columbus, Ohio until his retirement. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and past Post Commander and long standing member of the Leisure Blackston American Legion Post 239 in Worthington, Ohio. Joe also served the community he so loved by volunteering in many civic activities such as the Colonial Hills Civic Association, annual Memorial Day parade, and served on the Walnut Grove Cemetery Board. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 50 years Betty Jane (Whitehurst) Miller of Columbus; his brother Daniel; several brother and sisters-in law; cousins, and one daughter-in law. He is survived by his two sons Dana, and Bruce and Bruce's wife Ruth; five grandchildren, Andrea, Christine, Shaun, Stephanie, and Zachary, and one great-grandson, Jonah; and six nieces and nephews, Jerry, Jennifer, John, Judy and Joan (Roback) and Steve (Miller). A Memorial service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Rutherford Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington, Ohio, followed by graveside service at Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion, Leisure-Blackston Post 239, 700 Morning Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085; attention Matt Favret, 2014 Memorial Day Parade Director.
