MERWIN Harmon T. Merwin, passed away February 1, 2008, from natural causes in Hamilton, Mt. Harmon was born July 10, 1920, in Middlefield, Oh. to Ora and Harry Merwin. He attended Kent State University, then worked at Goodyear Aircraft in Akron, Oh. before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942. He was discharged in 1946 after serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany. Harmon graduated from Ohio State University in 1950 with a degree in Landscape Architecture. He married Eldred Stahman on April 10, 1954. They had three children, Elaine, Brian and Kathryn. Harmon worked with the Mid Ohio Regional Planning Commission in Columbus, OH. where he was director for ten 10 years. He then worked as a planning consultant. Harmon was president of the Ohio Planning Conference for 2 years. He was president of the American Institute of Planning for one year. Harmon was an active member of North Broadway United Methodist Church in Columbus, Oh. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masons. He lived in Upper Arlington, Ohio for over 40 years and moved to Stevensville, Mt. on November 7, 2005. Harmon was preceded in death by his daughter Kathryn Merwin. He is survived by his wife, Eldred; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Jerry Swartout; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kathy Merwin; and grandchildren, Luke and Ben Swartout and Cheryl Merwin. Funeral service will be held in Columbus, Oh. at North Broadway United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 7 at 11 a.m. Family will meet with friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church before the service. A Memorial Service will also be held at the Bitterroot Valley Living Center in Stevensville, Mt. on Saturday, February 9.
