LUCK James I. Luck, age 66, passed away on August 4, 2012. Preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo Luck, brother Dennis Luck and parents Milton and Gertrude Luck. Survived by his children, Andy (Brenda Aller) Luck, Ed (Nancy) Luck, Marissa Geier and Philip Geier; brother, Thomas Luck; grandson, Joseph Luck; sister-in-law, Elaine Luck; Nancy Maxwell and nieces and nephews. Jim graduated from Akron Buchtel High School, received his B.A. from The Ohio State University and his M.A. from the University of Georgia. In 1966 Jim and his partner Mike Manley took 1st place in the Dartmouth and Northwestern National Invitational Debate Tournament and went on to win 15 trophies that year. In 1967 Jim and his partner, Edward Smith participated in 43 debates and brought home 38 trophies. Jim went on to be the Director of Forensics at Texas Christian University, Associate Director of Bicentennial Youth Debates, Executive Director of National Congress on Volunteerism and Citizenship, Fellow at the Academy for Contemporary Problems, Executive Director of Battelle Memorial Institute Foundation, Executive Director of Ingram-White Castle Foundation and President of The Columbus Foundation for 20 years. Funeral services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are preferred to the Jim and Mary Jo Luck Fund at The Columbus Foundation, 1234 E. Broad St., Columbus 43205.
