KREIDER James A. Kreider, DDS, retired Professor of Dentistry, The Ohio State University and long-time Worthington, Oh. resident, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at The Village at Westerville Retirement Center. He was born in Newark, Oh. on November 13, 1911, to Mr. and Mrs. James A. Kreider, Sr. Preceded in death by his first wife Helen Imhoff Kreider and second wife Laura Criswell Kreider, he was also preceded in death by 5 brothers and 1 sister. Dr. Kreider is survived by 1 son, Jeffrey Kreider and his wife, Kim of Helotes, Tex.; 1 daughter, Stephanie A. Hall and her husband, William of Wheeling, W.Va. He is also survived by granddaughters, Alison Voyiatt and husband, Christopher of Westerville, Oh., Susan Comer and husband, Rick of Powell, Oh., and Amanda Szall of Marysville, Oh.; grandsons, William L. Hall of Pittsburgh, Pa., James A. Hall and wife, Kathy of Wheeling, W.Va. and Zachary Kreider of Helotes, Tex. There are seven surviving great-grandchildren. Dr. Kreider graduated from Newark High School, Newark, Oh. in 1929. He graduated from The Ohio State University, School of Dentistry, in 1935. He practiced dentistry in Newark from 1935-1940, upon which he volunteered for military duty during World War II. He served in the United States Army, Dental Corps until 1945, participating in the North Africa, Southern France and European Theaters and attained the rank of Major. He joined The Ohio State University dental faculty in December, 1945 where he remained until his retirement in 1979. He was a dedicated and demanding educator. Dr. Kreider was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Psi Omega Dental Fraternity and Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary dental fraternity. He was a life member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, a member of the Columbus Dental Societies and both the OSU and American Dental Associations. Dr. Kreider was a member and former Elder of the Worthington Presbyterian Church. Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High Street, Worthington, Oh. 43085, 614-885-4006, where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007. Dr. Richard D. Ellsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Worthington. If they choose, friends may make memorial contributions to a charity of their choice, in Dr. Kreider's memory.
