Stephen Kayati, 90, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio passed away on April 23, 2020. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Norma Jean Bachelor Kayati. He is survived by daughter Sharon (Frank Powers), son Thomas (Joanne), daughter Kathy (Tim Kennedy), daughter Vickie (Jon Otermat), and son Jeffrey (Maureen Riley), sister Grace Kayati Allgren, brother’s-in-law David Bachelor and Robert (Dick) Bachelor (Westy), grandchildren Andrew Kayati, Ryan Kennedy, Luke Powers (Jourdan), Kaitlyn Kennedy, Ben Otermat, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He attended Otterbein College until he was called to serve in the Korean war. Upon his return he graduated from The Ohio State University. After working in the private sector for many years, Stephen began his own accounting practice in 1970 in Worthington above Leonardo’s Pizza. After 40 years of practice, Stephen retired in 2010 at the age of 80 at the insistence of his children. Dad loved gardening, grilling fish, and taking care of everyone’s landscaping. With Kubota and clippers, no yard was safe.
Mom and Dad spent numerous hours lunching at their favorite hot spot in Worthington, Villa Nova, where Stephen celebrated his 90th birthday with family. While we will miss him dearly here, he is finally back with Norma Jean, and that gives us all peace.
