Dr. William D. Hitt, age 69, of Worthington. Died peacefully at home on August 17, 1998. after a ten month courageous battle with cancer. Preceded in death by his father Sellers Hitt, mother Clyde Hitt, brother Robert Hitt, and sister Lois Moore. Graduated from the University of Kentucky and received his Ph.D in Industrial Psychology from The Ohio State University in 1956. Employed at Battelle for 41 years. Worked first as a researcher, next as a practicing manager, and most recently as the Director of Manager Development for the past 19 years. His world travels gave him an international reputation in manager development. He was also an accomplished author, publishing his 9th book in January, entitled "The Global Citizen". His last publication, "A Guide for Building a Learning Organization" was published last month. During the past two weeks, he completed a papter entitled "Philosophical Anthropology" which is based on his philosophe of life. All of those he came in contact with were inspired by his positive attitude towards life. Survived by his wife of 41 years, Diane; daughters, Jennifer (Bill) Best, Jodi (Joe) Bush, Julie (Jim) Szabo, Jill (Bill) Wiebell, 8 grandchildren, Jackie & Brandon Best, Brian, Taylor & Riley Bush, Jessica, Jake, & Jenna Szabo; sister, Mary Owen Bush of Lexington, Ky., mother-in-law, Frances Umbaugh of Marion, Oh.; many other friends and relatives who will miss him dearly. Family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 1998 at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St., Worthington. Celebration of Life Friday 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment Walnut Grove Cemetery. Rev. Charles Zweizig officiating. Contrubutions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice at Grant/Riverside Hospitals.
