Virginia F. (Violet) Hess, age 84 of Delaware, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999 at the Arbors of Delaware Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 14, 1915 in Madison Co. near Irwin, Ohio to Charles B. and Anna E. (Lowry) Violet. The family moved to Powell from Dublin in 1932 where Mrs. Hess graduated from the old Powell High School in 1934. She married E. Eugene Hess in 1935, the couple then operated a small manufacturing shop in Powell for 44 years. Mrs. Hess was a long time member of the Powell United Methodist Church and the Liberty Rebekah Lodge #247 of Powell. She was also a member of the Powell-Liberty Historical Society, a poll worker for many years, a volunteer worker for the Red Cross Blood Mobile Unit, and a former Treasurer for the Village of Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years in 1985, and her son Charles in 1992. Her survivors include 6 grandchildren, Greg (Teresa) Hess, Julie (Neil) Maynard, Kevin (Kendra) Hess, Christopher (Tiffany) Hess, Joshua Hess and Dee Dee Hess; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999 at the Powell United Methodist Church, 825 E. Olentangy St., Powell, with Rev. Louise R. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Worthington, OH. The family will receive friends at the Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 W. Olentangy St., Powell, OH on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Rebekah Lodge service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8:30 p.m. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to either the Powell United Methodist Church or the Liberty Rebekah Lodge #247 in Virginia's memory.
