C. James Grothaus, at Kobacker House, Gospice at Riverside Hospital after a brief illness. Parents Charles R. Grothaus and Phyllis Grothaus Beard. He is survived by wife Jo; children Rob (Beth) Grothaus, Julie (Ronnie) Musgrave of Mt. Vernon, Oh. Jody (Ed) Moore and Jennie (Paul) Radloff; mother Mrs. Phyllis Beard of Mt. Blanchard, Oh.; 11 grandchildren; brother David Beard, Mt. Blanchard, Oh. Jim was a graduate of Findlay High School. He earned a B.S. in Comprehensive Science from Findlay College after serving 4 years in the U.S. Air Force including 2 years of combat duty in Korea. He earned an M.A. in Education for O.S.U. in 1961. He taught math and physics at Columbus North High School 1957-1961 and developed the Glenwood School for the Emotionally Disturbed 1961-1962. Served as Barrett Junior High Asst. Principal and Principal, 1961-1965, and Beery Junior High Principal, 1965-1968. He joined the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio in 1968 as assistant Executive director 1983-1992. As executive director OSTRS of Ohio, he was active in the National Council on Teachers Retirement, Southern Conference on Teacher Retirement, Midwinter Conference of Large Public Employee Retirement Systems and the Public Pension Coordinating Council. He received a distinguished alumnus award from the University of Findlay, an outstanding service to education award from the ORTA and an exceptional achievement resolution from The Ohio Senate. The child-care center at the State Teachers Retirement System was named in his honor.
