Richard Dale Glass, age 89, of Mansfield Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the Emeritus at HillenVale. He was born on May 13, 1924 in Chesterhill, Ohio to the late James Russell and Mary (Hart) Glass. Dale served in the United States Army during World War II as a tank commander. Upon completion of his military service, Dale earned his Master’s Degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Wisconsin. Dale had also earned the status of Emeritus Professor of Agriculture for the Ohio State University. Dale retired in 1979 after 35 plus years with the Ohio State University Extension Service. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Hill Church and the North American Blue Bird Society. Dale will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his children, Connie (Gary) Myers of Silver Springs, Maryland, Thomas (Phyllis Freedman) Glass of Washington D.C., Betsy (Wes) Youngberg of Temecula, California and Benjamin (Karen) Glass of North Royalton, Ohio, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a brother, James Hart Glass of North Port, Florida. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Glass (2009), a brother, Robert Glass and a sister, Mary Ruth Anderson. A funeral service will be held on Friday starting at 3 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Hill Church, 535 Wooster Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio where friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Fred Shoemaker and Pastor Lou Tuscano will be officiating. A private burial will take place in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Worthington, Ohio. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Richard Dale Glass. Memorial contributions may be made in Dale’s name to the Student Fund at the Seventh Day Adventist Academy.
